ABOUT THE MESA SANTA EXPRESS

Our Story
Starting in 2016, Mesa Santa Express began as an initiative of Mesa Urban Renewal & Arts Lab (MURAL), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. MURAL approached Valley Metro with the idea of transforming the light rail in Mesa into a festive holiday experience for the community. With the support of Scott Smith, President of Valley Metro, the concept of the Mesa Santa Express became a reality—inviting the public to experience light rail in a joyful and welcoming way during the holiday season.
Through the efforts of Valley Metro, which provides the trains and professional staff that make the event possible, and Amy Church along with a dedicated core of volunteers who bring the experience to life, the Mesa Santa Express has entered its ninth year of service. Since 2016, more than 44,000 passengers have ridden the Mesa Santa Express free of charge, making it a cherished and accessible holiday tradition for the community.
Community Impact
Aligned with MURAL’s mission to revitalize and activate downtown Mesa, the Mesa Santa Express has become a cornerstone of the downtown Mesa's Merry Main
Street holiday experience. By combining public transportation, community participation, and seasonal celebration, the event continues to create meaningful moments for families, riders, and volunteers alike.
